Another Look at Kinley's Nursery

We are finally back from Portland but before I share all of our adventures I wanted to take a moment to share some pictures of Kinley's room.  When Courtney came to take the newborn pictures of Kinley I also asked that she take some pictures of her nursery.  Even though I had already taken quite a few before Kinley arrived it was nice to have a professional capture some of my favorite room in our home.

Baby Girl's Nursery

When we found out we were having a little girl I was beyond thrilled!  I loved decorating Sawyer's nurseries (the one in Portland and the one in Colorado) as well as transitioning it into his big boy room but the idea of using girly colors and accessories really had me excited!  

It took me quite a while before I finally decided on the paint colors, Valspar's Radiant Orchid (the color of the year for 2014) and Blushing Violet.  I decided to only paint one wall, the largest one in the room with the Radiant Orchid because it was such a deep rich color and I didn't want the room to ever feel small.  Once the main wall was painted I followed up with the blushing violet on the rest of the walls.

After the walls were painted it was time for the DIY fun to really begin.  While we were in Portland in March I went to my favorite fabric store and grabbed two different fabrics that coordinated as well as matched perfectly with the Radiant Orchid color.  I created throw pillows out of one of the fabrics (tutorial found here) and then purchased a third fabric in a light teal/turquoise color to make two more pillows out of.

I made striped curtains (to date still the hardest DIY project I have ever completed, tutorial found here). hung them up on the two windows in the room, moved in the chair and ottoman from Sawyer's room, spray painted his old side table silver, found other accessories and painted them silver, hung book shelves, hung artwork and accessories, made the room feel as comfortable and calm as possible.

Nursery...The Tale of Two DIY Baby Mobiles

Years ago when I was in college I purchased a crystal chandelier at Urban Outfitters on sale for about $10.  I took it to each new location I moved to until in our new house it was neatly tucked away with no where to be placed...that is until I found out we were having a girl!  I immediately thought that it would make the most wonderful mobile after seeing sweet Ashley's crystal mobile tutorial on God Bless Our Nest.  

I decided the only embellishment that my existing chandelier needed was a ruffle of coordination fabric to tie it in with the rest of the room.  I cut a long 30 inch by 2 inch length of fabric and then created a basting stitch down the middle of the fabric.  Once the stitch was completed I simply pulled on one of the treads and created a ruffle which I later went back and evened out the ruffle.  Once the ruffle was complete, I hot glued it directly onto the top of my chandelier.

Once it was hung I didn't feel as though it was delicate enough for the space.  The picture doesn't really show this but it block quite a bit of the painting we have hanging over the crib so I decided to head in a different direction and searched Pinterest for inspiration, which is where I found the following images.

I decided to create a mobile from a silver branch I had laying around in our garage as well as some coordinating scrapbook paper.

DIY...Jazzed Up Bumper Pad Ties

When I first started my search for crib bedding for Sawyer's room I knew that I wanted to try and get something that was gender neutral so that I could also use it for another room and theme all together.  I ended up selecting a white minky bumper, complete with white ties.  My mom suggested that she create new ties for the bumper so that it would look new and fresh in baby girl's room.  

She used the same fabric I had used for some other accents in the room and I think they turned out fabulous and really make the bumper feel brand new instead of like a hammy down from her big brother!

The crib sheet is also something I DIYed and love how it turned out!  It was super simply and only took two yards of fabric and some elastic.

TGIF Plus New Etsy Store Items

I'm excited to announce a new item available in my Etsy shop, Tice's Tidbits.  I have created a gift set which is designed to grow with the baby from the newborn stage through life as a toddler.  The set includes a knotted top baby hat, a knotted jersey headband, and a bow hair clip.  Each set is $18 and can be purchased here!  Currently the sets are only geared for little girls but I plan to roll out a gift set for little boys in the next couple weeks!

On another note, I am so excited that it is Friday again already!  We have a birthday party for one of my girlfriend's little girls tomorrow and then we have a couple of finishing touches for the nursery which I can't wait to wrap up and then share with you!
